Island tides

It's been a few months since I returned from King Island and I have been sorting through the work I made there. It took just over a month for my work to be shipped back to lutruwita/Tasmania so the break away from looking at it has been useful.

There are several distinct bodies of work emerging, all under the same thematic umbrella, but aesthetically and formally different. These groupings begin to explore slightly different aspects of my residency exploration and experience.

I have been working back into some of the prints, setting prints aside for future artist books and I have also carried on printing. Recently, I introduced another colour - RED! Still figuring out what and why with that shift, but it's something to do with warnings, alarms and infra-red vision...that's about all I can tell you for now.

Works in progress in the studio

There is still much to do in the studio with this work and I am now juggling full time work and life (outside of art making). But the brain and body are thinking and working all the time. Sometimes all I can do is briefly step into the studio to look and think. It highlights the value of a concentrated residency period for in depth investigation away from the distractions and obligations of everyday life.
